Parks levy renewal heading to the November ballot
Council voted to place a 6-year parks maintenance levy renewal on the November 3 ballot, at a slightly higher rate.
What is happening
Council voted 6–1 on June 23 to place the parks maintenance levy renewal on the November 3 ballot. The renewal is $0.38 per $1,000 assessed value (up from $0.35), funding park maintenance, the summer rec program, and — new this cycle — a trail-repair line item. The decision now belongs to voters.
Why it might matter
The levy is about 70% of the parks maintenance budget. If it fails, staff project mowing cycles halve, the wading pool closes, and the summer rec program ends. The rate increase costs the median homeowner about $14 more per year. Nothing further happens until ballots — but this is the item most likely to touch every household in November.
What is known
- Ballot measure language was finalized in the June 23 resolution.
- Current levy expires December 31, 2026.
- The new trail-repair line is capped at 8% of levy proceeds.
Still uncertain
- Voter appetite for the rate increase — the 2020 renewal passed 58–42 at a flat rate.
- Whether an organized opposition campaign forms (none registered yet).
